Mr Lee Kum Sheung, founder of Lee Kum Kee, invented oyster sauce in Nan Shui, Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China in 1888. Today, Lee Kum Kee has become a reputable global brand specialising in Chinese sauces, and it also established LKK Health Products Group to introduce Chinese herbal health products to the world. In 2018, the Xinhui production base of Lee Kum Kee was recognised as "National Green Factory" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; and it became the first company in the fermented food industry globally that received the "LEED" Platinum certification in 2020. After "Xinhui Production Base Green Manufacturing Project" won the "Silver Award" and "Outstanding Impact Award" of the first "SDG Achievement Awards Hong Kong 2021" organised by Green Council, its "Constructed Wetland Park Project" was selected as "Recognised Project" in the following year. Lee Kum Kee Company Limited was awarded "Green Office" label by World Green Organisation since 2021 and has been granted the "Caring Company" Logo for 21 consecutive years. In 2022, it received "Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence — Certificate of Merit" from Environmental Campaign Committee.
