The Made in Hong Kong Mark (“HK Mark” or the Mark) is a geographic indication for identifying goods that originate from Hong Kong. At the same time, the Mark is the distinctive visual symbol for the Made in Hong Kong Mark Scheme (the Scheme). HK Mark is applied to official occasions/activities related to the Scheme, and can also used by holders of the Made in Hong Kong Mark License (the License).
The Mark and the License are the property of the Organiser, i.e. Hong Kong Brand Development Council (the BDC). The Organiser has full control over the licensing, use and display of the Mark.
Organisations authorized to use the Mark shall ensure that it is used in compliance with the requirements laid down in the “Regulations Governing Made in Hong Kong Mark Scheme” and all the other regulations established by the BDC and the Issuing Organisations.
Licensees are entitled to use the Mark for indicating the Hong Kong origin status of the goods specified on the License, such as appearing on the product, packaging, manual or catalogue, and related promotional materials, and in all other forms of printed, electronic, written and verbal communications.
The logo of Made in Hong Kong Mark must be used in accordance with the standard scheme and colors. It can be used with a logotype provided that such logotype should be in the specified format and the text should be either “香港製造”or “Made in Hong Kong” or their bilingual combination. The standard scheme, technical specifications of drawing, logotype format and layout of the Mark are stipulated in the “Identity Guide for Made in Hong Kong Mark”.
The Made in Hong Kong Mark can be enlarged or reduced with its aspect ratios and color scheme remaining unchanged. And it may appear in any size provided it is not less than 8mm in height. Where limitations of space or other circumstances prevent the use of the Mark in the minimum size or in standard color, request to use the Mark of smaller dimension or a special color will be considered by the BDC on a case-by-case basis.
All special-purpose goods in connection to the Mark, such as badge, souvenir, counterfeit laser label, sticker, tent card or other display items, should be exclusively produced, distributed and managed by the BDC on a cost-recovery basis.
The Made in Hong Kong Mark could be combined with marking details, including License Number, name and trademark of the Licensee and the brands of the goods concerned. Marking details should be placed adjacent to and in a smaller size than the Mark as far as possible.
Holders of the Made in Hong Kong Mark License may use wordings to indicate or interpret the Mark in textual or verbal contexts, provided that the full name of the Organizer or its short form, and the application scope of the Mark are well articulated. Some examples to illustrate the proper use of the Mark are included in the “Suggested Uses of Made in Hong Kong Mark in Literature”; other wordings may be used provided that it is first submitted to consult with the Organiser.
The Made in Hong Kong Mark should be applied is such a way that is decent, clear, legible, reliable and easily visible.
This Guideline is subject to the final ruling of and may from time to time be altered by the BDC. The BDC has the right to take disciplinary actions against any breach of these regulations.
